New year, new cover photo. Happy 2018. Do you know what happens when you google Summer Barney? You get a whole bunch of seasonal photos and Barney the Dinosaur. Summer Gayle Creative, however, is my fancy brand name. I'm a storyteller, designer, artist, and filmmaker who loves Jesus, medium length walks on the beach, good books, and puns. If you just keep clicking through, you'll find stuff with buzzwords like "Photoshop" and "Los Angeles" and "Gee, I bet she'd make a great employee."
I’m just an ink sketch of a girl, swinging in front of some roses, asking someone to buy me. Redbubble Shop design.
Medium: Pen, Photoshop, Indesign
A gif showcasing a selection of eflyers I made for various agents and properties during my time at Wish Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles.

Redbubble Design titled “It Girl Surrounded By Flowers.” Pen sketch of a 20’s era girl surrounded by flowers that have a bit too much of a 70’s vibe going. It’s a dance of decades, baby.
Pen, Art Markers
That just, almost, fluttering-in-your-stomach moment. Design for my Redbubble Shop.

Have you ever seen Jim Henson’s Labyrinth? It’s in my top seven favorite movies of all times. I’ve watched it a lot since I first saw it when I was nine. So much so that I accidentally memorized the entire movie. I have, on three separate occasions, quoted the movie in its entirety.
So that’s a fun fact about me. I made this drawing because I love this movie.

Freelance commision. Client requested a custom design that would be etched into a glass Blackjack table top. Once that was complete, we started the ongoing process of making a custom deck of cards for the table.
Pictured here is a simplified, digital rendering of the original table design, which was done with pen and ink and sent to the client. The card was drawn digitally.

A selection of my favorite postcards I made while at Wish Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles.

Ok, so, this is called Queen of the Flowers because I think that sounds much cooler that it’s original name, “Pink Grandma Background,” so named because I made it for my grandma when she asked me to make her a pink background for her computer.
Photoshop, Wacom Tablet
Poster for a short film called Dearest til Death about a Black Widow Bride. Freelance commision. Figure and floral wreath drawn digitally by yours truly.

Oh, the holidays! Those times of year when I was allowed my most creative freedom at work. I love a good clean, modern design, of course, and that aesthetic works well with the luxury real estate I marketed at Wish Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles…but it was nice to have a business related reason to break out my illustration skills.
Halloween 2018 and Valentine’s Day 2019 gifs for the company social media pages.

Two more examples of my holiday themed gif making. Fun Fact: The Happy New Year gif is the first gif I’d ever made.
Happy New Year 2018 and Fourth of July 2018 Gifs for company social media pages.

Hey look at this! Little bit of photography, little bit of illustration. Nice. Redbubble shop design. Pen sketches of birds rendered into line drawings through Illustrator and double exposed on a photo I took of the ocean.

A Save the Date card I made for my mom’s wedding. It’s a beautiful story…he always had a crush on her in high school, but they went their separate ways, lived separate lives, only to find each other years later. OH MY GOSH, I weep! But anyway, I’m very happy for her and offered to do the Save the Date cards for the occasion (somebody else had called dibs on the invitations, otherwise I would have been ALL OVER THAT.)
Photoshop, InDesign
Remember when I said the holidays were when I was able to be most creative? This is what I meant. A selection of my favorite of the holiday eflyers I made at Wish Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles. All illustrations are my own. Holiday eflyers would be personalized with an agent’s info and sent as an embedded image through email and/or posted on social media.

This is a fun bit of X-Files fan art I did a few years back. It’s pop-y. It’s color block-y. It reminds me that I need to rewatch that series and get caught up on the new seasons.
The truth is out there. 👽
Photoshop
Get it? Because it’s my cat…in a lion’s mane hat…surrounded by flowers…?
ANYWAY! Redbubble design.
